Songwriters: CASTIONI, HARRY / CHRISTENSEN, ALEX / LAGONDA, B. / WYCOMBE, - / MARTIN, CHRISTOPHER / BERRYMAN, GUY / BUCKLAND, JONATHAN / CHAMPION, WILLIAM / ENO, BRIAN / ALLEN, PETER / ANDERSON, ADRIENNE

I turn the music up, I got my records on
I shut the world outside until the lights come on
Maybe the streets alight, maybe the trees are gone
I feel my heart start beating to my favourite song

And all the kids they dance, all the kids all night
Until Monday morning feels another life
I turn the music up
I'm on a roll this time
And heaven is in sight

I turn the music up, I got my records on
From underneath the rubble sing a rebel song
Don't want to see another generation drop
I'd rather be a comma than a full stop

Maybe I'm in the black, maybe I'm on my knees
Maybe I'm in the gap between the two trapezes
But my heart is beating and my pulses start
Cathedrals in my heart

As we saw oh this light I swear you, emerge blinking into
To tell me it's alright
As we soar walls, every siren is a symphony
And every tear's a waterfall
Is a waterfall
Oh
Is a waterfall
Oh oh oh
Is a is a waterfall
Every tear
Is a waterfall
Oh oh oh

So you can hurt, hurt me bad
But still I'll raise the flag

Oh
It was a wa wa wa wa wa-aterfall
A wa wa wa wa wa-aterfall

Every tear
Every tear
Every teardrop is a waterfall

Every tear
Every tear
Every teardrop is a waterfall

The Story Behind This Song Lyric :-

The lyrics and video are about August 6 1945, the day the US government dropped the atom bomb on Hiroshima. The video opens with a Stonehenge symbol, then turns into a writing on the wall symbol for a nuke blast over a city, followed by the "black rain wall."

The lyrics: "Until Monday morning feels another life"August 6 1945 was a MONDAY!!!You first see Chris in the video up against a pillar which has bee painted black around him to symbolize the Black Shadows left of people after the Hiroshima bomb blast. In fact the lyrics state, "maybe "I'm in the black, maybe I'm on my knees" to symbolize this: Actual black outlines left on walls from the force of the nuclear blast.Chris sings maybe he'll be a black shadow on a wall or on the sidewalk as happened to 70,000 people in 10 seconds after the blast set off or maybe he'd be whole but crippled "on his knees" like many people after the blast:The other lyrics "From underneath a rubble sing a rebel song Don't want to see another generation drop". what do you think that means? Not some fairy tale description as described above by other posters. The song/video is lamenting a possible nuclear attack and what we kids will go through to drown out the specter that is looming over us. That's why "every tear (we would shed) is a waterfall" meaning we would cry and cry and cry for the pain and sorrow. The lyrics, "I shut the world outside until the lights come onMaybe the streets alight, maybe the trees are gone" don't you get that it means the nuclear blast lit up the streets and blew all the trees away? Also lyrics "As we saw, oh, this lightI swear you emerge blinking intoTo tell me it's alright" means the bright light of the blast scared him into imagining a close friend was there to say it was alright.Google "Hiroshima shadows" and "black rain wall" to see the actual black shadows of people's bodies left after the Hiroshima blast and where the Coldplay video maker got his ideas for the dripping paint lines on the wall that turn into the words and writings on the walls..Did you see the nuclear symbol in the video? Pass this information on to your friends the same way Coldplay passed this on to us.
